Client Background

The client is a major conglomerate operating in Sri Lanka, with a diversified business structure that meant its legal function needed to operate across multiple business lines simultaneously, not a single corporate context. 

The Challenge

The conglomerate needed a General Counsel with corporate law expertise, M&A transaction experience, and board-level communication capability, a combination that is genuinely rare. Corporate legal depth alone isn’t enough at this level; the role also required someone comfortable advising a board directly on legal and commercial matters, and experience navigating M&A transactions specifically, given the conglomerate’s ongoing corporate activity. 

The seniority and confidentiality of the role also meant a standard, open search wasn’t appropriate, the client needed a discreet process that wouldn’t signal internal changes prematurely.
