Building an Employer Brand for a Large Retail Workforce
A leading Food City chain in Sri Lanka operates in an industry where people are central to the customer experience. From frontline employees and cashiers to store managers, supervisors, customer service teams, logistics professionals, and corporate staff, the quality of the workforce directly influences the customer experience.
The organization wanted to strengthen its employer brand and improve how it communicated career opportunities to the Sri Lankan talent market. Formix was engaged to develop an employer branding approach that would make the organization more attractive to prospective employees while strengthening the consistency of its recruitment communication.
The Challenge
Retail and food businesses face a unique employer branding challenge. They require large numbers of employees across different locations and functions, while many potential candidates may view frontline retail positions as short-term employment rather than long-term career opportunities.
The company therefore needed to change the conversation around employment. Its employer brand needed to demonstrate that opportunities existed beyond entry-level positions and that employees could develop their skills, progress into supervisory and management roles, and build longer-term careers within the organization.
